Outdoor Activities
The beautiful Vale of Llangollen offers a wide range of outdoor activities, both guided, and for those who prefer to explore independently.

For the mountain bikers amongst you, visit OnePlanet Adventure at Llandegla Forest, just 15 minutes drive from Llangollen. Here you will find dedicated trails ranging from beginner through to advanced, plus bike hire should you need it. When you’re done on the track, enjoy a bite to eat at the cozy log café.
In addition to dedicated trails, there is also plenty of other on and off-road biking in the area.
For those who prefer to get around on foot, there are walks for all abilities in and around Llangollen. Lower level walks take you along the banks of the River Dee, Llangollen Canal and through the beautiful valleys. Whilst higher up along the Panorama, you’ll find miles and miles of superb scenery, and panoramic views.
Local Attractions and Events
In the town centre you’ll find an array of gift shops and traditional arts and crafts. There are also plenty of pubs, cafés and restaurants. Just a few steps from the main street you’ll find peace and quiet by the riverside, where the rocks and shallow water allow for a paddle in the summer!
Visit the Horseshoe Falls, where you can relax, unwind, and take a dip. Or take in some culture at Llangollen Museum, Valley Crucis Abbey, Dinas Bran Castle, or Telford’s Aqueduct.
Fun for the Family
There is plenty on offer for families in Llangollen. The traditional steam railway, which takes you through the valleys, is popular with kids and adults alike. At frequent times of the year, Thomas the Tank Engine pays a visit to the station too! There are also horse drawn boats rides along the canal. At Honey Pots, kids can paint their own ceramic bowls, plates and other such objects.
There are a number of events throughout the year in and around Llangollen, including the International Eisteddfod, a world-renowned festival of music, song and dance, attracting more than 120,000 visitors each year. The Fringe Festival welcomes music, performance and comedy, and provides an ideal opportunity for visitors to mix with the locals. Llangollen also plays host to the Hot Air Balloon Festival, the Motorcycle Show, the International Canoeing Slalom, and many more events.
